Lawn Mowing
The lawn is the job most people want off their hands, and the one that shows first when it is left. We mow to a height that suits the time of year rather than scalping everything to the same length — higher through a dry spell so the grass holds its colour, lower once growth slows. Edges are tidied so the lawn reads as a shape rather than a patch, and clippings are cleared rather than left in drifts across the grass.

Hedge Trimming
A hedge is structure, screening and a windbreak all at once, and it only does those jobs if it is cut properly. We trim hedges back to a clean, even line and keep them to a size you can actually manage, taking the time of year into account — hedges are living things and cutting at the wrong moment costs you a season of growth, or disturbs nesting birds. Clippings are gathered up so you are not left with a hedge's worth of debris across the beds.

Planting
Planting is quick to do badly. A plant dropped into an unprepared hole in the wrong spot spends two seasons struggling and then dies quietly. We take the time over the ground first — loosening, improving and watering in — and put plants where the light, the shelter and the soil suit them. Whether it is filling a gap in a border, adding some seasonal colour or putting in shrubs for structure, the aim is planting that establishes and keeps going.

Beds & Borders
Beds and borders are where a garden earns its keep, and they need more than a strim. We dig over tired ground, work in what it needs, edge the bed cleanly against the lawn or path so it holds its shape, and plant it up. On an existing border that has got away from you, the same work applies in reverse: clear, cut back, lift and divide what is worth keeping, and replant so there is room for everything to grow.

Plants From Seed & Cuttings
Not everything in a garden has to be bought in a pot. Raising plants from seed or from cuttings takes patience and the right conditions, but it is by far the cheapest way to fill a border — and it means you end up with plants that are already used to your garden rather than a nursery polytunnel. We can sow, take cuttings, pot on and look after young plants until they are strong enough to go out, then plant them where they will do best.

Overgrown Shrubs & Trees
Shrubs and small trees creep. One year they are fine, the next they have taken the light off half the garden or grown across a path. We cut them back into a sensible shape and size, working with how each plant grows instead of shearing everything flat — so it comes back looking like a plant rather than a stump. Where something is genuinely too big or too close to a building for safe work from the ground, we will say so rather than take it on.

Clearing Paths
Paths go green and slippery faster than anyone expects, especially anything shaded or north-facing, and weeds in the joints will open a path up over time. We clear paths, steps and hard standing of weeds, moss and the growth that has crept over the edges, and cut back the planting leaning in from either side. It is a small job with an outsized effect: the route through a garden suddenly reads as a route again, and is safer underfoot in the wet.

Pest Control For Plants
Most plant damage comes down to a handful of usual suspects, and most of it is fixable if it is caught early. We keep an eye out on every visit for the things that do real harm — aphids building up on new growth, scale, sawfly stripping a shrub, the classic slug and snail damage on anything soft — and deal with them proportionately rather than reaching for the strongest thing on the shelf. Where a plant is failing for some other reason, you'll be told that too.

General Garden Maintenance
This is the catch-all: weeding, deadheading, sweeping up, clearing leaves, keeping the bins of green waste under control and generally staying ahead of the garden rather than behind it. Little and often is far less work than an annual rescue, and it costs less too. Comprehensive gardening and maintenance is what the business does — so if there is a job in your garden that doesn't fit neatly into any of the headings above, ask anyway.

Some gardens need one good tidy and that's that. Others are easier kept right with a visit now and then through the growing season. You choose which, and you can change your mind later.
